German Governmental Organization for international cooperation GIZ partnered with eight other organizations, including the National Biomass Association SERBIO, launched a project to support the creation of sustainable regional model for the supply of wood biomass in Croatia, Bulgaria and Serbia.
The main objective of the project is to establish and reinforce in these countries the supply chain for woody biomass, introducing the innovative concept Biomass Logistic and Trade Centers, so-called BLTCs.
Biomass Logistic and Trade Center – BLTC is an innovative concept, which works as a mediator between actors in the chain of supply and demand of biomass. BLTC can be at regional level and at local level, with the optimal logistics for mediation in trading different energy products based on biomass, which are of standardized quality (for example: dried firewood, wood chips, pellets etc.). That way the barriers to improving the biomass market are being overcome, but at the same time the initial financial risks are being reduced.
Within the project, it is planned to establish 6-8 BLTCs in Croatia, Bulgaria and Serbia, by June 2017.
Professional and technical support for feasibility studies, business plans and market development of biomassin addition to GIZ also provide partner organizations from Europe: European Biomass Association "AEBIOM", Styrian Chamber of Agriculture "LWK Steiermark", Center for marketing of agricultural products and energy "CARMEN eV" from Germany, the Finnish Institute for research in forestry "Metla" and the Institute Energy Agency of the Savinja and Carinthia regions of Slovenia. The partners, tha will work years on the establishment of logistics centers in their respective countries in the next two are: Regional Energy Agency of Northwest Croatian "REGEA" National Biomass Association "BGBl" from Bulgaria and the National Biomass Association SERBIO in Serbia.
The project officially began on January 1st 2015, and the first meeting of the Steering Committee, in the presence of representatives of all partner organizations, was held on February 5th and 6th in Friesing, in Germany.
Projekat je podržan sredstvima Evropske unije iz programa za istraživanje i inovacije Horizon 2020, u okviru ugovora o grantu br. 645994
